The East Central Ohio ESC offers School Psychological Services to those Districts wishing to participate. The services of the School Psychologist include:
- Providing the intensive psycho-educational evaluation of individual children identified as or thought to be disabled;
- Contributing to the written report of the evaluation team and delineating the results of the psycho-educational evaluation for consideration in the development of the Individualized Educational program (IEP) for each disabled child studied;
- Contributing to the Multifactored Evaluation (MFE), utilizing diagnostic instruments and techniques appropriate for the area of disability or suspected disability, as part of the Multidisciplinary team;
- Consulting with teachers, parents, and other educational personnel on matters relating to the education and/or mental health of disabled children to insure the provision of the most appropriate educational program; and
- Counseling individually and in groups with disabled students and/or their parents.
Depending upon the availability of time as determined by the size of his/her caseload, the school psychologist may engage in:
- Serving as a consultant to schools in the development of educational evaluation and accountability procedures, pupil and personnel policies, inservice activities, curriculum, and staff development;
- Assisting educational staff in implementing or modifying instructional strategies, classroom management procedures, intervention strategies and follow-up activities;
- Providing for a differentiated referral system allowing school personnel and parents to request intensive psycho-educational evaluation and evaluation and/or consultation for non-disabled children; and
- Providing screening programs, mental health activities, and referral to and consultation with outside service agencies.
