ASL Teacher

East Central Ohio Educational Service Center

The East Central Ohio ESC is seeking a Teacher certified in American Sign Language (ASL) for the 2026-2027 school year.  The individual will be responsible for providing instruction to students while creating a learning environment that is challenging and developmentally responsive so that students may develop to their full academic potential.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develops written lesson plans and teaches scheduled classes; documents teaching performance objectives
  • Creates effective learning experiences for all students
  • Implements effective pupil management procedures; maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code
  • Develops and maintains a positive learning environment
  • Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives
  • Evaluates the needs of students based on all available information; varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles
  • Provides guidance, communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student progress
  • Facilitates critical-thinking, problem-solving and creativity skills
  • Collaborates with other teachers; shares knowledge and resources that enhance student learning
  • Incorporates the effective use of available technology in record management and program activities
  • Proctors standardized and alternative tests as directed; follows test security procedures and helps students with content-area preparation activities
  • Evaluates student achievement/performance and assigns grades; prepares progress reports and consults with parents as needed
  • Consults with support personnel to address student concerns (i.e., excessive absences, at-risk behavior, mental/physical health, etc.)
  • Works with supervisors and support staff to eliminate unacceptable or unsafe conditions/behaviors
  • May assist with preparation and implementation of intervention and IEPs for students meeting eligibility requirements
  • Participates in conferences, staff meetings, and professional growth opportunities as directed

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid Ohio teacher’s license with endorsement in the appropriate subject area
  • Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum and methodology of effective teaching
  • Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to teach in a remote/distance learning environment
