East Central Ohio Educational Service Center Hosts 2026 Math Tournament

More than 750 students competed in the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center’s 2026 Math Tournament on Thursday, May 7, and Friday, May 8, at Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia. Thank you to BCC for hosting this event. 

Students in grades 5 through 8 from schools across the East Central Ohio ESC region are invited to participate in the annual competition. Competitors faced three rounds of testing across five categories in their grade level. 

5th Grade competed in Geometry, Measurement & Data, Number & Operations – Fractions, Number & Operations in Base Ten and Operations and Algebraic Thinking.

6th Grade competed in Expressions & Equations, Geometry, Ratios & Proportional Relationships, Statistics & Probability and The Number System.

7th Grade competed in Expressions & Equations, Geometry, Ratios & Proportional Relationships, Statistics & Probability and The Number System.

8th Grade competed in Expressions & Equations, Functions, Geometry, Statistics & Probability and The Number System.

Thanks to all our participating districts: Carrollton, Claymont, Conotton Valley, Dover, Garaway, Harrison Hills, Indian Valley, New Philadelphia, Newcomerstown, Strasburg, Tuscarawas Central Catholic, Tuscarawas Valley and West Holmes. 

Top finishers were  recognized for their academic achievement. First-place competitors received trophies while ribbons were awarded to students placing second through sixth in each category.

The Math Tournament serves as an academic challenge for the region, giving students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and represent their school districts in a competitive setting.

More than 750 students in grades 5–8 gathered at Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia on May 7–8 for the East Central Ohio ESC’s 2026 Math Tournament.

Competitors from 13 districts across the East Central Ohio ESC region faced three rounds of testing in five math categories at their grade level.

Students put their skills to the test across categories ranging from Geometry and Statistics & Probability to Expressions & Equations and Ratios & Proportional Relationships.

Top finishers were recognized for their achievement, with first-place competitors earning trophies and ribbons awarded to those placing second through sixth in each category.

The annual tournament gives students a chance to showcase their math skills and represent their districts in a competitive academic setting.
