The East Central Ohio Educational Service Center (ECOESC) hosted the Young Author & Illustrator Workshop, giving selected fifth and ninth grade students from Guernsey and Tuscarawas counties a hands-on creative experience on October 16.
Students worked with authors Sara Holbrook and Michael Salinger and illustrator Greg Scott, who led sessions on storytelling, illustration techniques and the creative process.
Students were placed in teams of one author and one illustrator and began drafting original concepts for their competition entries. The pairings encouraged students to share ideas, trade feedback and work together to bring a single story to life through words and art.
Final submissions are due in January. A student story-sharing session will be held Feb. 26. Awards will recognize top authored, illustrated and collaborative stories across both grade levels.
