Nearly 320 Guernsey County eighth graders will trade the classroom for the workplace and discover careers waiting in their own backyard at Guernsey County Career Connections on November 3.
Organized by the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center (ECOESC), the event is open to eighth-grade students at Cambridge City Schools, East Guernsey Local Schools and Rolling Hills Local Schools. In addition to hearing about the career options, students will meet the people who do the work and learn what it takes to get there.
Whether they love animals, engines, gadgets or the great outdoors, there is something for every curious student. The participating businesses span energy, manufacturing, health care, agriculture, conservation and public safety, showing students that many in-demand careers are waiting for them in Guernsey County.
Thirteen local organizations will welcome students to their worksites: Basic Systems, Quanex Custom Mixing, AMG Vanadium, Deerassic, Southeastern Ohio Counseling Center, Red Hill Farm, Guernsey County Soil & Water, Muskingum Valley Health Centers, Guernsey Muskingum Electric Co-Op, Cambridge Police Department, Anderson Excavating, Guernsey County Sheriff and Cedar Ridge Behavioral Health Solutions.
In addition to students visiting these businesses, The Wilds and Ohio Natural Energy Institute will present to students at the Pritchard-Laughlin Civic Center.
ECOESC thanks the participating businesses and organizations for giving students this opportunity, and to Pritchard-Laughlin Civic Center for opening its doors to help make this event possible.
