The East Central Ohio Educational Service Center (ECOESC) is proud to announce the results of the 39th annual Belmont County Regional Spelling Bee, held Thursday, February 12 at The ECO Center in St. Clairsville. There were 18 students from across Belmont County who competed in this year’s event, showcasing their dedication, preparation and love of language.
“The regional spelling bee provides our country districts with more than just a competition—it creates opportunity,” said ECOESC Gifted Coordinator Julie Rotruck. “Our students gain confidence, strengthen academic skills, and realize they can compete and succeed beyond their small communities. Experiences like this broaden horizons, build pride in our schools, and show our students that their hard work truly matters.”
Adeline Jackson, an eighth grader representing the Catholic Consortium, claimed first place after nine competitive rounds. Jackson clinched the title by correctly spelling her final two championship words in the last round. This is Jackson’s third appearance at the Belmont County Spelling Bee and her first win.
As the 2025-26 Belmont Regional Spelling Bee champion, Jackson earns a trip to Washington D.C, to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, May 26-31 at the Daughters of the American Revolution Hall, along with additional prizes and awards. Congratulations to all of our top competitors:
First place: Adeline Jackson, eighth grade, Catholic Consortium
Second place: Mason Kiene, eighth grade, St. Clairsville Middle School
Third place: Joseph Kurtley, fifth grade, Martins Ferry Middle School
Fourth place: Cambria Breiding, eighth grade, Bridgeport Middle School

The ECOESC congratulates all 18 participating students on their hard work and achievement. Each student demonstrated impressive skills and sportsmanship throughout the evening.
