Young Authors’ Conference and Competition

Location: Kent State University Tuscarawas

Dates: Friday, October 18, 2019 and Friday, February 21, 2020

The Youth Authors’ and Illustrators’ Conference and Competition are a fantastic opportunity for our most talented 5th grade and 9th grade writers and illustrators.  Day one, October 18th, will consist of a true writers’ and illustrators’ conference with keynote speakers, Sara Holbrook and Michael Salinger, followed by professionally facilitated breakout sessions including sessions on brainstorming, illustrating, using animation, and book making apps.  Students will be required to bring a sack lunch for this day hosted by Kent State University Tuscarawas.

The writing merriment continues on day two, February 21st, and will consist of student authors bringing a written piece in one of three assigned genres and student illustrators bringing an illustration in a medium of their choice.  Students will work with professional facilitators to edit, revise, and produce a final piece.

Final pieces will be judged and students will be given prizes in each of the assigned genres.

Student illustrators will compete in their own competition on this day.

KSU Tuscarawas will provide a certificate for a scholarship for the top overall prize in each age group.  Winning Authors and Illustrators will be published and displayed at the Local Libraries.  The event will be hosted by Kent State University Tuscarawas. Lunch and t-shirts will be provided.
