Young Authors’ and Illustrators’ Conference and Competition

Location: Kent State University at Tuscarawas

The Young Authors’ and Illustrators’ Conference and Competition are a fantastic opportunity for our most talented 5th grade and 9th grade writers and illustrators from Tuscarawas and Guernsey counties.  Day one consists of a true writers’ and illustrators’ conference with keynote speakers, Sara Holbrook and Michael Salinger for authors and Greg Scott for illustrators. Students will focus on mentorship and collaboration as young authors partner with young illustrators to create a compelling and visually appealing story together. 9th graders and 5th graders will have time to focus together on what it means to  be an author/illustrator and help each other as they work on their story.  Students will be required to bring a sack lunch or schools can purchase pizza for this day hosted by Kent State University Tuscarawas.

Students will work on their stories until January 20th, when they will submit their story for the competition on February 24th.

KSU Tuscarawas will provide a certificate for a scholarship for the top overall prize in each age group.  Winning Authors and Illustrators will be published and given to local libraries and schools.
