Claymont City Schools
In collaboration with Claymont City Schools, the East Central Ohio ESC is seeking a Preschool Aide that is licensed to effectively step into a Preschool Teacher role as needed. The ideal candidate will have the desire to interact with students who have a wide range of maturity levels, the ability to manage student behavior, and the experience to offer educational activities that support developmental skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with a prekindergarten program
- Valid Ohio license appropriate for the assignment (one of the following):
- Teacher License with Prekindergarten credentials
- Associate 5 Year Prekindergarten License
- Substitute Teacher License with “Education Degree Unlimited” designation
- Teacher or Substitute Teacher License with the ability to obtain the appropriate Supplemental License within 60 days
- Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
Preschool Aide Responsibilities:
- Works with small groups or individual students per teacher’s instructions
- Helps students with a wide range of maturity & developmental levels learn appropriate skills
- Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance
- Supports an inclusive educational environment and helps students with disabilities participate in appropriate peer group activities as directed
- Encourages student creativity using music, art, and play activities that address the learning style of each student
- Actively participates in planned recreational activities and ensures safety of students
- May assist students with mobility needs or assistive or augmentative devices
- Supervises non-classroom activities as directed (i.e., arrival/departure, lunch, recess, field trips)
- Works with teacher to address behavior problems; assists with intervention and/or intervention plans as needed
- Helps prepare classroom, maintain supplies, organize storage of equipment and sanitize as necessary
- Performs clerical work related to classroom activities and prepares classroom equipment for use
- Prepares snacks for student as required; assists students with routine hygiene
Preschool Teacher Responsibilities:
- Develops written lesson plans and teaches scheduled classes; documents teaching performance objectives according to district guidelines
- Creates effective learning experiences for all students through instruction and use of learning materials and equipment; uses relevant technology to support instruction
- Provides families with information/strategies to reinforce skills learned in school
- Identifies problems that may impede learning and/or the social integration of preschool students; helps identify families that may need intervention services
- Facilitates the transition process for students entering or leaving the preschool program
- Implements effective pupil management by establishing/enforcing rules and procedures
- Monitors the progress of individual students and evaluates the needs of students based on all available information
- Makes referrals for student assistance/intervention when a need is identified; meets mandated deadlines for required paperwork and works with team members
- Evaluates student achievement/performance and assigns grades; prepares progress reports and consults with parents as needed
- Consults with support personnel to address student concerns (i.e., excessive absences, at-risk behavior, mental/physical health, etc.)
- Participates in conferences, staff meeting and professional growth opportunities as directed
