The Common Core / Revised Standards Grade Level Guides are designed to function as an easy-to-manage tool for the classroom teacher. Each of the individual statements at a particular grade level may be used for instructional purposes throughout the school year, shared with parents, and/or passed along to the next year’s teacher(s) for on-going intervention/enrichment. Grade Level Standard/Content Statements, along with the web-based Model Curriculum, tell what all students should know and be able to do at each grade and serve as checkpoints that monitor progress toward mastery.

State education chiefs and governors in 48 states came together to develop the Common Core, a set of clear college- and career-ready standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts/literacy and mathematics. Today, 42 states and the District of Columbia have voluntarily adopted and are working to implement the standards, which are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to take credit bearing introductory courses in two- or four-year college programs or enter the workforce.
