School Social Worker

East Guernsey Local Schools

In coordination with the East Central Ohio ESC, East Guernsey Local School District is seeking a licensed Social Worker to provide leadership and advocacy for students with existing and potential environmental barriers to learning.  This position will be responsible for collaborating with the school, home and community to create policies and provide mental health interventions. The Social Worker will also strive to connect students with support services in an effort to eliminate barriers and help them succeed academically.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the core values of school social works including the following:  service, social justice, dignity & worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence
  • Identifies and removes barriers to student learning
  • Collaborates with school staff, students, parents and the community to identify and connect to resources to improve all students’ environment and mental health issues
  • Identifies and builds relationships with local community partners to develop a network of supports and services for students and families
  • Designs student interventions based on assessment data and evidence based practices
  • Measures and assesses effectiveness of work on an ongoing basis
  • Maintains student and program records to facilitate ongoing program evaluation and ongoing district planning needs
  • Collaborates with district teams to develop and support multi-tiered interventions
  • Advocates for all students to ensure equal access to support and education services that eliminate barriers to learning
  • Engages in regular and targeted professional development for school social workers
  • Ensures safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintains strict confidentiality at all times
  • Serves as a role model for students
  • Provides clinical diagnostics and treatment consigned with professional training, certification and licensure

 

Skills, Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited program required
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred; potential for tuition reimbursement for individual who secures degree following employment
  • Valid State of Ohio Social Worker License or Independent Social Worker License
  • ODE Pupil Services License/Registration – Must be obtained upon hire
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License
  • Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled in assessment and data gathering by multiple means, including but not limited to interviews, observation, standardized assessments, surveys and focus groups
  • Experience with coordination of social services
  • Ability to build rapport between systems and providers

  • 187 Day Contract
  • Salary based on degree and level of experience
