Rolling Hills Local Schools

The East Central Ohio ESC is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Behavior Support Specialist in the Rolling Hills Local School District. The Behavior Support Specialist works with students to address personal conduct, discipline and/or attendance issues in an effort to improve their academic performance.  This position works to develop intervention strategies for at-risk students and assists teachers in implementing behavior management methods which encourage a state of physical and emotional wellness.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities are representative of performance expectations, but are not considered all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned as necessary.  A reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions. If the selected candidate is a qualified Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT), additional responsibilities related to that certification may be assigned.

  • Provides services to students to enhance their emotional well-being and improve their overall academic performance
  • Develops intervention strategies to enable the student to function within their school, home and community environments
  • Implements behavioral strategies and program modifications in accordance with a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Works closely with staff to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial and health) that may affect the student’s performance and behavior
  • Leads individual and/or group counseling sessions as required; provides guidance and positive reinforcement of appropriate behavior
  • Uses knowledge of Trauma Informed Care practices to best meet the needs of students, staff and families
  • Observes and collects data on student behavior, including culture and climate of the school
  • Coordinates community resources to meet students’ needs/wrap around services; maintains a strong relationship with community health leaders
  • Participates in the BLT & PBIS communities
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports timely
  • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to legal authorities as required by law
  • Participates in conferences, staff meetings, and professional growth opportunities as directed
  • May assist with Special Education, 504 meetings and other student case conferences
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with local business leaders, community partners, and college/school administrators
  • Demonstrates professionalism and diplomatically addresses the concerns of students, parents and administration
  • Promotes a positive work environment and encourages student/staff enthusiasm
  • Interprets information accurately and initiates effective responses
  • Skillfully manages individual, group and organizational interactions; exercises self-control when dealing with difficult situations
  • Effectively uses listening, observation, reading, verbal and nonverbal communication and writing skills
  • Organizes tasks and manages time effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to assist students with disabilities (i.e. mobility issues, transferring, positioning, etc.)
  • May be required to successfully complete training in communicable disease, child abuse & neglect, CPR, first aide, and/or behavioral management

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ohio Department of Education License appropriate for assignment
  • Experience working in K-12 educational setting which includes the use of intervention planning and behavioral management techniques
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
  • Trauma Informed Care knowledge preferred
